Context
Challenge, Objective, Action and Results

Challenge: Join a large-scale project that had been in development for 3 years, ensuring fidelity to the original design while enhancing and scaling existing mechanics and systems.
 

Goal: Balance equipment, character attributes, economy, and battles, while introducing new progression points and boss encounters.
 

Action: Conducted a full review of documentation, created balancing spreadsheets, and worked closely with Level, Narrative, and UX Design teams.
 

Result: Improved the player’s onboarding experience, enhanced inventory UX and equipment management, and refined boss battles, raising the overall consistency and quality of gameplay.

Responsability

DOLMEN was a large-scale project already in development for over three years, where I contributed by continuing the existing Game Design and addressing specific gameplay and system challenges. The main challenge was to maintain fidelity to the original design while enhancing and scaling existing mechanics and systems.

Key Contributions:

  • Developed, in collaboration with the programming team, a challenge and progression balancing system, defining player paths, possible player profiles, and items to be implemented.

  • Conducted a comprehensive documentation review and created balancing spreadsheets for equipment, character attributes, economy, and battles.

  • Redesigned the UX for Leveling, Crafting, and Storage systems to improve clarity and usability.

  • Planned and created an intermediate Boss Fight and adjusted two pre-existing Boss Fights (one early-game and one end-game).

  • Worked closely with Level, Narrative, and UX Design teams, contributing to future design decisions and ensuring integration between narrative and gameplay.

  • Produced design and specification documentation, used to manage the task backlog in Trello.

  • Conducted playtests and prepared Quality Assurance reports, identifying bugs and proposing improvements to enhance overall player experience.

" When an earthling awakens in the middle of Revion Prime, where the greatest massacre of the galaxy has occurred, one should not expect him to go very far. Not if all the animal life of this place wants to shut his noisy heart up and finally go back to sleep above the corpses of endless nameless races that rot under the sky.

But who is this person? And why is he or she so far from home? The Earth is just a distant memory, there is no crew and the resources are nearing the end. Wouldn’t it be easier to hide and die in silence inside the shelter of the ship’s remains? "

Dolmen is a third-person game of the Soulslike genre in which you assume the role of the surviving crew member of the Zoan ship, awake after a cryogenic sleep on a hostile planet called Revion Prime.

To survive the dangers of this planet, the player must make his way by defeating fearsome creatures, using their parts to build new weapons and armor. Counting on Alfx, a strange voice that communicates telepathically and an energy reactor, capable of attributing elemental effects to its attacks and armor.
